ZAG - Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute
The Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute (ZAG) is the leading research and testing institute of its kind in Slovenia. It is a state-owned, independent, impartial and nonprofit organization. The main activities of ZAG include: a) fundamental and applied research in the fields of building materials and structures, b) development of new methods of testing and measurement, c) certification and attestation of conformity of products, materials and executed works, d) training of research and technical staff in particular technical fields, e) participation in the preparation of technical codes and standards. Currently, ZAG has 200 staff employed, including more than 110 experts with university education or higher degrees. One of the important programmes of ZAG's activity is environmental research, especially in the field of waste recycling, circular economy and soil and water remediation. Over the last 15 years ZAG has participated in more than 70 projects funded from the EU's 4th to 7th FP’s and H2020, including coordination of two LIFE projects: LIFE ReBirth (LIFE10 INF/SI/138) and LIFE RusaLCA (LIFE12 ENV/SI/1000443). ZAG is member of EIT RawMaterials, the largest community on raw materials, dealing also with water management in raw materials sectors. Their role in the project will be coordination, support with the know-how and experiences in waste water treatment as well as in development of recycled waste based products, evaluation of environmental, social and economic impacts of demonstrated system, development of decision-making tools and transfer of good practices.
